About
A ledger kept in the open
US–China Trade is an independent editorial and data project. It exists to give market analysts, academic researchers and interested readers a single, well-sourced, navigable ledger of the bilateral commercial relationship — the numbers, the documents, and the sequence of decisions that moved them.
Method
All figures are compiled from public sources — principally the U.S. Census Bureau's country trade series, the Peterson Institute's tariff tracker, USTR and Federal Register actions, and contemporaneous reporting from major wire services and financial newspapers. Every data-bearing page carries an "as of" date; the site-wide snapshot for this build is October 12, 2026.
Editorial rules
- Every data point carries a source and a date; unsourced numbers do not ship.
- Where averages and statutory rates differ, both are shown — with the difference explained.
- Events are dated to when measures took effect, not announced, unless noted.
- The project takes no position on the disputes it documents; it takes positions on the arithmetic.
- Updates are snapshot-based: each build freezes a dated fact base rather than pretending to be live.
